After Leverkusen’s win looking forward to lose points in extra time now and read these very fascinating ‘winning mentality’ analyses for the 900th time.
Haven’t seen the complete match yesterday but Xhakas goal was a real banger for a kickoff. And LEV keeps on winning in extra time.
I think the players are motivated enough, but after last night I hope we can show tomorrow we are the real deal and it will be tighter than last season
One more day until we start farming again 👨🌾 /s
Kompany flat out denied the Athletic report about telling Matta that hes his #1 CB, so now we can put this issue to bed.
> Max Eberl on selling de Ligt: “I understand that there are fan favourites, but we don’t make decisions based on fan favourites. We spoke to Vincent and made decisions regarding the squad. Of course we know how Matthijs performed, and we wouldn’t talk bad about him. But we made decisions regarding the defense, we wanted a left footed defender, that’s why we signed Hiroki. We spent money on Olise, Palhinha and Hiroki. So as a club you have to generate money. You can’t do like Chelsea and go into the season with 45 players. We spoke clearly to the player and made the decision, and that’s how it was”
Chelsea catching strays
Kompany saying we’ll need around 90 points this season to win the title puts things into perspective for me.
I’m 100% behind him – but what a monumental task for your first season in the Bundesliga.
I like how Kompany so far handled the press conferences.
Looking at top level football – by that I mean teams that are contenders to win champions league – it’s really hard to pintpoint teams that got significantly stronger after summer. I guess the most obvious team in that category would be Real Madrid, but idk if that Kroos lost won’t hurt them more than anyone predicted.
I only watched part of the first half last night, but that fucking predictable outcome really put a damper on my football watching mood this weekend. Not super excited to watch the Konferenz later, and I’m not as stoked about our match tomorrow as I was a couple of days ago. Feels like Leverkusen will luck their way to another good season and we’ll only be playing catch-up again.
We really need a convincing win against Wolfsburg.
Joao Neves got 4 assists in his first game lol
>Kompany on playing Kimmich in midfield: “Josh has always had the potential to play at right-back for many years of his career. But with Sacha and Stani, we just had two fantastic right-backs as well. We were very happy with that. As an option in the season, everything is always possible. But for me where I see Josh best, where I really enjoyed observing him was in midfield. That’s why he’s there. He’s not playing there because he’s Kimmich. He’s playing there because he’s showing every day in training that he deserves to be picked there. It looks like he’s enjoying it as well. So everybody’s happy”
I’m currently a bit busy so the press conference thread may comes later but it will come
Didn’t watch Leverkusen yesterday. Why was there 11 minutes added time?
I’m really not that concerned for the first half of the season, I’ll be honest. Even last season, we were on par with Leverkusen until the winter break. It’s the performance drop-off afterwards that killed us. The Rückrunde last season was the first time since the 1991/1992 season we conceded 30(+) goals in half a Bundesliga season. And in 1991/1992 the league was still 20 teams as well.
That streak was older than me. And it died in spite of the rise of Pavlovic and the lowest backline since at least Niko Kovac.
