  22. Modi was really just dropping off the carry out Zelenskyy’s team had ordered from the war room. Two chicken tikka masala, a biryani, a buttered chicken and a vindaloo. But it seems the popadoms and chutney got left behind.

  29. I will be very surprised if Modi can pull off something meaningful with his diplomacy in Kiev. One is the aggressor and the other is a defender. I don't think India has that kind of leverage with Russia or Ukraine.

  35. Russia invaded Ukraine, Putin driven by greed, fear and delusion.
    Putin is responsible for nearly half a million deaths because of this, the majority Russian. With his attacks on children's hospitals, theatres where people sheltered, targeted funerals (even China condemned that one).
    Putin has caused suffering for millions, has caused nearly 3 million of Russia's best people to leave, has assassinated and imprisoned opposition (including Navalny) and protestors, has closed independent media.

    Putin broke the 1994 treaty in which Ukraine have up the nuclear weapons it held and in return, Russia agreed to:
    1) not invade Ukraine
    2) not try to change Ukraine's borders
    3) not attempt to change the Ukrainian government.
    There were no caveats, no extra clauses. It was witnessed legally by the USA, UK, Belarus and others.

    And still India does not condemn any of these. In return India gets fossil fuels from Russia at half price. This is despite India predicted to be one of the worst affected by climate change (and Russia's policy to sell as much fossil fuel as it can while it can).

    There are reasons of course beyond not caring about the wider world outside India. If India condemns Russia then Russia potentially moves even closer to China which is building a strange hold around India with the Belt and Road initiative. However, China already provides the majority of tooling and microelectronics for Russia's invasion.

    Modi is no Ghandi of course.

    And India's trade with Russia, excluding the new expansion in self defeating fossil fuels which means India is paying not only for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but is also paying Russia to badly affect India's climate (Russia's invasion of Ukraine has also released more CO2 than any country over the last 12 months amd puts the average Russian CO2 emissions per person higher than any other country in the world).

  36. I don't understand what Modi Ji wants to do. First he went to Russia, Putin honoured him with Russia's highest civilian award. Modi Ji hugged Putin as usual. Now Modi Ji went to Ukraine and hugged Zelensky. But Russia is not fighting Ukraine, it is fighting America + NATO. Ukraine is just a mask.

    I don't know what Modi Ji wants to do. Even if Zelensky agrees to accept all the conditions of Putin, will America let him do so?

    It has been more than 2 years since the war started. If Ukraine was fighting Russia, would Ukraine have been able to stand against Russia till now? This is something to think about.
