Pet thieves could be jailed for up to five years under new UK law

2. I mean is this affecting communities all over the United Kingdom? Is there a epidemic of pet crime going on right now? I have a dog but I think there’s far more important laws to be implementing right now.

3. Editors note: This is less than you can be jailed for theft, which this offence almost always was encompassed by anyway.

4. 5 years seems too low. To a lot of us this is like kidnapping a family member. Steal my TV? I can at least replace it. I can’t just magically replace my dog I’ve loved since raising them.

   Edit: Also it’s *up to* 5 years. Which means it would probably have to be on the upper end of extreme cases to get the maximum.

5. The police are great at investigating burglaries, so I’m confident all our pets will be safe…

   Which prisons will they be going to exactly?
