  10. This again! Artists who complain about their music being used at political events are engaging in PR/performance art. The license to use recorded songs at public venues is usually gained by the venue, from the holder of the rights, like ASCAP, not the composer. Those rights often forbid use at political events. But if political campaigns use them anyway…what happens? Not much. Of all the lawsuits and unpaid bills Trump leaves in his wake, fines for using music without permission aren’t even in the tail-lights.

    I’d welcome being corrected. If anyone has any citation for a band successfully suing a politician for using their music without permission, let’s see it.

  19. No clue why but the title is bugging me. The emphasis (and capitalized word) should be “not” instead of “ok”. Reading it for some reason was a bit weird lol.

    Oh and side note, this is not surprising. Repeatedly trump and republican campaigns use music without permission. They keep doing it because other than a c&d is issued. I think only once so far as a lawsuit been filed but that is a rarity. Settling the lawsuit is minor compared to the repeated use of music.

  20. All artists should proactively send a letter to the Trump campaign and post it on social media that the Trump campaign is not permitted to use any of their songs. Get out in front of it. Don’t wait to hear your song played at their rally.

  21. For the Trump campaign to use Céline Dion, “my heart will go on” has to be a staffer trolling their own incompetent campaign. The song is essentially adjacent to a sinking ship which is also his campaign.

  28. Every election. Republicans use a song from a very not-Republican band…band gets pissed off, openly throws support to whatever Dem is running. Since at least the late 70s/early 80s.

    Add the irony of said song being against what republicans think it means for an extra level of fun and entertainment.
