Could the government please fuck off with the paternalistic stuff (social media bans, minimum unit pricing, etc.) and start tackling the actually tough stuff of government (HSE, housing, policing). Never ending stream of ministers wanting to sign a document and get their own “smoking bans” legacy.
We would all love to see that. But how?
This would be as effective as those “Are you over 18?” queries on porn sites.

What would be much better is a ban on parents using their children as social media content without their consent (influencers)
Jesus Christ, stop trying to ban everything! Leave it up to the parents. My god when did we start inviting the government into every facet of our lives
To be seen doing something, so tackle the non-pressing issues.
Not going to work without buyin from Apple and Google android doing proper age filtering access to apps. Phones would need to be locked down and web browsers disabled.
If you actually look into the affects for social media on youth development it’s not good. I’d wager it’s not good for most adults either!
No thanks Stephen. How about you focus on your own job in the dept of health.
Great idea ! Its a fucking health hazard.
Ban social media ASAP
I am willing to bet that Donnelly has contributed to way more harm to Irish children than social media has.
Just look at the scoliosis thing for one of many examples.
He can’t fix real problems so he does this so that loads of shitty parents can say it’s not their fault and it seems like he’s doing something. It’s pure theatre.
How about banning government from getting between children and parents?
This is beyond stupid – again with the dumb, lazy “solution”. What he’s talking about is censorship which has no place in a free democracy. Are teenagers simply not allowed to have any online meeting spaces. How does he define social media? So will we be banning teens from YouTube, reddit, all internet messages boards, the comment section on news sites, online gaming discussion groups, video game chats etc.? How about instead of banning teens from digital meeting spaces they tackle and regulate the providers appropriately? i.e. fix the actual issue
These useless tools can’t do something as simple as build houses, hospitals, public transport or provide decent mental health services but they are capable of censoring the entire internet?
Social Media are just machines to gi e you mental illness (and as a byproduct occassionally turn yer da into a conspiracy theorist)
Who?!
Remember folks!
Its the phones that are leading to the long waitlists and people dying of sepsis, etc.
Its all the kids fault!

Seems to be a particularly unique trait of Irish politicians that instead of solving significant problems that actually affect people, they create alternative issues to tackle, and decide to look big by trying to ban it.
I call for a ban on Stephen Donnelly, for all ages, just because, he is Stephen Donnelly, Nuff said
