  4. When almost all economic gains go to the top economic class, the economy can do well on paper and feel like a dystopian late stage capitalism hell hole for most everyone else.

  5. I work 50 hour weeks live as frugal as possible don’t go out don’t have any fun and I’m barely barely getting by this economy is so good! 😊

  6. The economy is doing great for the top 1% and record setting for the top 0.1%!

    For the average American making 50k or less we are struggling to pay our bills. Making hard choices on what we can no longer afford and learning how to adjust to becoming poorer every year.

    How long until the consumers can no longer afford to consume? When will reality hit for the economy that we are buying less and less as prices on everything rise? When will greed finally catch up and crash the market?

  8. People usually only feel the state of the economy in regards of their own jobs. Company can make record profits but as soon as everyone loses their job the perceived economy is going down.

  9. People will say the economy is bad when their standard of living has declined and it has. They probably don’t know or care about GDP. Running massive fiscal deficits will produce good GDP numbers but we’re growing GDP at 2.8% while full time employment is tanking and the unemployment rate is rising swiftly. We’re also likely to see lots of downward revisions in the economic data going forward which is common heading into recessions. So maybe the economy is doing better than people think by the numbers but people care about standard of living and not economic data.

  12. My guess is that what the US is experiencing is a growing wealth divide. It’s great for the people who are doing better, and terrible for those who are not.

  20. Polls repeatedly show that the person being polled is doing well but they think everyone else is screwed.

    This isn’t to say we don’t have massive structural problems. It’s a country of 330m and we’ve abandoned about 15% of that. That’s a lot of people.

    There are plans to take care of them… depending on how the election goes.

  26. I’m so fucking sick of these propaganda articles. The economy doesn’t mean shit when it all benefits the top few %.

    Decent jobs with good benefits are absolutely becoming harder to obtain, keep, and they’re being outsourced or automated. All while some shitfuck large shareholders and executives reap the rewards of our hard work and all time high profits. Sure the average worker has some stocks/retirement and benefits slightly, but the downsides absolutely outweigh the benefits for most.

    I’ve never been more worried about the future and my ability to make money and retire in the future with the way things are heading. And we have to deal with nearly half the country trying to take away what little safety nets we have…
