I’ve been laid off and have 6 months until the end of my contract. Do I have to apply in 3 days, or do I have time until 3 months are left? Do I have to come in person, or online/phone call is enough? Thanks

  1. what did you mean by having been laid off but still have 6 months job contract? do you still receive salary for the next 6 months?

    Added: as you know when the last day you work, report to arbeitsagentur as arbeitsuchende, this usually is done 3 months before that

  2. There are 2 different cases for the notification:

    1. you know when your employment relationship ends because, for example, the employment contract is LIMITED: register at least 3 MONTHS before the last day.

    2. if you find out at short notice (less than 3 months ahead) that you will become unemployed, i.e. through a TERMINATION, you must register as a jobseeker within 3 DAYS.
