Leicester Square stabbing: Moment suspect arrested | Exclusive footage

This is the moment that a man was arrested in connection with the stabbing of an 11-year-old in London’s Leicester Square.

Two police officers were filmed handcuffing the man on Monday, moments after private security guards from a nearby shop had bundled him to the ground before police arrived.

In the video, thought to have been shot by one of the private security guards, one of the Metropolitan police officers can be heard reading the man his rights, telling him: “The time is 11.38. You’re under arest on suspicion of GBH”.

The officers then ensure the man is properly secured before asking one of their colleagues to use police tape to ensure the crowd of onlookers is kept well back from the scene.

Ioan Pintaru, 32, of no fixed address, was later charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

The Metropolitan Police said its officers went to the scene of an attack in London on Monday where the girl was found with stab wounds.

She was taken to hospital where her injuries, while serious, were assessed as non-life threatening, the force said.

A shop security guard leapt in to help the girl as she was being attacked.

It was initially believed that the girl’s mother, a 34-year-old woman, was also hurt however it was later confirmed that blood from her daughter’s injuries had been mistaken for injuries of her own.
