I mean, technically, it is but a matter of spheres of influence, between Russia and the United States over Ukraine, for one it’s literally their home turf, for the other, a strategic position.
I personally believe Putin wouldn’t attack if a treaty banning Ukraine from ever entering NATO was signed.
In that case wouldn’t Taiwan be a “Asian problem”?
