The German Bundesversammlung (explanation in the comments) re-elected Frank Walter Steinmeier as Head of State today

  1. The Bundesversammlung is an extra sort of Parliament coming together ever 5 years to elect the Bundespräsident (German President). It consists of all MP’s of the Bundestag as well as the same amount of representatives from the Länder (federal states) which can be politicians as well as famous people or everyday life people (meaning theoretically every citizen could be part of the Bundesversammlung). Normally it is held in the Reichstag, but due to Covid it was held in the Paul-Löbbe-Haus (extra parliamentary building) this time to ensure all Covid restrictions are implemented. All in all 1472 people were allowed to vote.
