Europe’s Longest Bridge – The Kerch Strait Bridge

  1. Interestingly, it is a second time a bridge in this location has been attempted. First time, it was an occupying power as well. 1943, I believe

  2. The time of day makes for some really interestingly beautiful color combinations! For a split second it even looked entirely cgi!

  3. For the curious, this was built by Russia in 2019, connecting the Taman peninsula in Russia with Russian-occupied Crimea.

It’s called the Crimean Bridge – they [put it to a popular vote](https://www-interfax-ru.translate.goog/russia/592146?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp) and managed to avoid getting Bridgey McBridgeface.

At around 19km long, it’s half again as long as the previous longest in Europe, the Vasco da Gama Bridge in Portugal.
