Do people at the FTC understand how the economy works? In my community there are 3 Walmarts, 4 Piggly Wiggley, 3 ALDIs and at least 3 other independent grocers. There are 3 Kroger stores competing against those other grocery stores. How exactly will Kroger’s acquisition of Albertsons lead to additional grocery price hikes for everyday goods? If anything the combined buying power of Krogers (2750 stores) and Albertsons (2200 stores) would allow them to compete more effectively with Walmart (10,000 stores) lowering prices. And I still have the option not to shop at Kroger’s
They better stop these stupid mergers, it’s getting ridiculous.
Competition is expensive and unprofitable.
If you want to maximize profits over the long term, you have to either buy out your competition, or merge with your competition.
If everyone else is too poor or stupid to stop you, then they deserve to be eaten in the “””””free market””””.
That’s the real competition in the so-called “””””free market”””””.
It’s between the rest of society and the capitalist/kleptocrat class, not the capitalists/kleptocrats with each other.
Cooperation is orders of magnitude more powerful than competition, and our ruling capitalists/kleptocrats want to keep those benefits for themselves while making the plebes compete to sell their labor.
The free of consequences market predatory practices…that’s how far right extremists libertarians tech bros are dismantling America economy system..
