Trying to prepare for the disappointment
Not rewatching the first movie seems like exactly the type of thing you’d do if you were just “doing a big sequel for money.”
It seems He can’t open his mouth without making it seem worse.

“I didn’t even watch the first movie to prepare” is not the flex you think it is, dumbass.
He didn’t watch Beetlejuice to prepare for making the original Beetlejuice either, and we all know how that turned out.
People giving him grief for this don’t realize it’s kind of a tradition for him. He made the first movie without watching the first movie to prepare either.
This movie is going to be cheeks
People here know he made the first one right?
Also, this may be a more useful quote:
“Like I said, I didn’t watch the first movie to prepare for this. I remembered the spirit of it and I remembered everybody here.”
Remember David Chase of al people didn’t rewatch Sopranos for his movie, and look how that turned out.
And somehow Beetlejuice returned
Why do I feel like this is gonna be a stinker? Every interview I read from the actors all seem lukewarm about it.
Wait a minute, someone hasn’t seen beetle juice?
Why would he need to watch the first one to prep when he… checks notes… directed the first one?
Are they going to make a third one and call it “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”?
lol Tim burton does everything for money now. What a liar.
I mean, he directed the first one and I’m sure he’s watched it multiple times over the years. And he has been thinking about, writing, and preparing for a sequel in fits and starts for like 30 years. And in the full quote he explains that he remembers it and the spirit of it.
