curent forecasts put the 2024 capacity additions for solar at 592, and 62 GW for EU, giving EU roughly 10.5 % share in new solar capacity added this year
the fact that the rest of the world is seeing faster growth rates in solar power is of no surprise given population growth and economic development, but it throws into garbage bins the claims that the rest of the world isn’t doing its share in growing clean energy
but i also think that EU deployment levels are underestimated and conservative
given that regulations have been simplified all over Europe and given that solar and especially battery storage prices are falling very fast, there are reasons to expect the solar market to outperform predictions in EU as well

I did not know that Italy installed so much solar power from 2010 to 2012.
Looks like Spain in 2008 was also a frontrunner.
Hardly suprising with this weather
crazy that in 2004 the world was adding 1 GW of solar per year , while this year we are adding 1.6 GW of solar power PER DAY

the manufacturing capacity is already at 1200 GW of solar modules per year, its just that Chinese producers are not ramping up production as fast as possible to not crash the global prices
most important, last year solar and wind generation growth was enough to cover 82% of global electricity demand growth, this year it should cross 100%

poor countries will have an easier time to decarbonize because most of them are at low latitudes and see nearly constant solar generation
* in Germany the difference in solar production between the best month and the worst month is around 900% ( 10 times more solar production in June vs January)
* in India the difference is just 50% ( on best month, solar output in India is just 50% or 1.5 times more than during the worst month
Germany still has to build out a lot of wind power and storage to prepare for winter months, Africa, South Asia, South East Asia and Latin America can just rely on solar power ALONE all year round, with some wind, hydro and battery storage to fill the nighttime gaps
What is this title?
Of course there are more GW installed in the whole world than in Germany only. The graphs are not even addressing this statement?
Doesn’t matter how fast you walk, the important part is to be on the right path.
I didn’t knew we were adding this much to the solar power capacity. I’m proud!
Not safe for r/Europe
Absolutely love our solar panels! Shame our ancient electricity grid wasn’t updated as the energy supply rose creating a situation where solar anal owners pay a fee for the slightest bit of energy they supply back to the grid (and then there’s the fact that businesses and even entire neighborhoods can’t be connected to the grid).
Lol in belgium they stopped the bonus you get for the solars and the grid owners will no longer buy the electricity from you. Last month there was sunny 2 days and the price of the energy went negative, so they actually paid you to consume because theres too many solar panels….
Germany, famous for its sunny fields
Who is making these laughably incorrect predictions (last picture)?? Like every year they predict output to flatline, and instead it rises almost exponentially. And they’ve been making terrible forecasts for like 10 years in a row
It should be stopped anyway. There’s already too much of it.
Happy about Poland, we need to kill coal plants, now we just need to push to off shore wind, in land wind, nuclear, energy storage, end we will be ok
Ah, the famous IEA predictions, always a pleasure to see.
Made fun of in the literature for repeated institutional failure to correct their model even after several iterations of utter empirical failure.
*TipTheHat
It tingles my brain wrong that the medium scenario is a line while low and high are a bar.
Also, that last graph is crazy, you’d think the amount of solar installations will go to infinity lol. Sounds like someone needs to figure out a way to make synthetic fuels or cheap enough industry to sun-follow.
