What3Words makes finding the exact meetup spot with friends easy, especially:

  • on a beach
  • at a US state park

I learned about it before vacationing in Alaska since both Alaska and Canadian first responders know What3Words is the fastest way to find you. https://what3words.com/news/emergency/three-words-to-tell-canadian-emergency-services-exactly-where-you-are

Is what3words known and used by Norwegians or Norwegian first responders?
I've been to Norway several times but didn't remember to ask while there. (and luckily have not needed first responders.)

  1. No, but we have a “Hjelp 113” app, first responders can also send you a SMS with a link to activate both positioning and a camera link to your phone.

  2. It’s not really know by the general public and i think some first responders know but not all.
Alot of People are husing the hjelp113 app which sends your posisjon to 113 (medical emergancy number) unsure if it does for fire and police as well

    Edit:

also most modern mobile phones have AML (Advanced Mobile Location) which sends your location when you dial the short dial emergency telephone number

  3. Wow, thank you u/Fler0n , u/KeySignature813 and u/Vedfinn all for your whippy fast response.

    hmm
Looks like I can not register a US cell phone number into the 113 app:
When I enter 1(xxx)yyy-zzzz into the field, the “Register” button never activates.
