As a Londoner, how often do you visit Canary Wharf?

  1. Maybe twice a year on average. Thinking back over the last few years: I went to a light show at Christmas (I have a small child); a train terminated there when I was on my way to the O2 so I had to wait on the platform; went to a stag do activity; and had some work drinks there.

I wouldn’t choose to visit. A lot of friends used to work there but they have all moved to offices in the City.

  2. I went on a school trip in approximately 1998/1999 and again in approx 2007 with a friend to help with his dissertation research. The theme of both was the regeneration of the area. Don’t think I’ve been since, can’t see much reason to spend time there as someone who neither lives nor works in the area.

  3. The last time I actually visited the area rather than simply change trains was to go to the Museum of London Docklands, which was actually very good.

  4. I used to work there. But since I resigned (more than a year ago), I have been there 2-3 times, changing trains to go to Greenwich.

  5. I go over every couple of weeks to shop in the mall there. It’s also very different so sometimes I just walk around it.

  6. Maybe a couple times a year. I used to occasionally use the mega Third Space gym but don’t have much reason to go east anymore.

I do like the Wharf though. The public spaces are clean and the park over the Tube is pretty. Contrary to received wisdom, I don’t think it’s soulless: the lives of the tens of thousands of Londoners who live there and the hundreds of thousands who work there are just as complex and rich as those living elsewhere. Soulless is just a dismissive Little England word for something newish.

  7. Live nearby, so most days to go to the supermarket/gym/etc

  8. About once every 10 years. Went two weeks ago to the Museum of London; was last there in 2015. And before that I have no memory, some time in 2008 perhaps.

  9. I end up transferring through there most days on the way to work. But to actually visit. Maybe twice in the past year.

  10. Never really, when I do I end up getting lost or going up an escalator into the lobby of some random office.

  11. Canary Wharf is one of the best parts of London! It’s so beautiful. I loved living there a few years ago when my boyfriend lived and worked there. I used to spend time there every day. 🙂

  12. Maybe once every 2-3 years and I can’t remember why. It was interesting to walk around during COVID though – very eerie.

  13. Following this for the classic “CW is a soulless place with just banker” from the aristocracy in this sub.

Like I said last time, stay as far away as possible and let us enjoy it to the locals then.

  14. Used to go for work a couple times a year. The waterside parts are quite nice nowadays. Went to the theatre at Canada Water a few months back, if that counts.

  15. I love Canary Wharf – it’s clean, easy to get around, got good amenities and feels safe. It doesn’t get super busy either which is nice

  16. I visited once for the first time a few weeks ago, purely with the intention of going to Fair Game.

Really nice area actually, and I’d definitely go back some time soon.

  17. In three years, twice. And one of those when I had recently moved to London and I was doing tourism!
