Well, economic isolation is a hell of a motivator.
Why are we glorifying a communist helhole. Just stop. Don’t spend your money there and if you like it so much then move there

Cuba is experiencing [ongoing shortages of essential goods](https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/americas/central-america-and-the-caribbean/cuba/report-cuba/) such as food, medical supplies, and electricity.
Yes, sanctions play a big role in this, but what that also means, is that their version of sustainability, is one imposed on them from the outside. Because of that, I don’t know that it’s clear which parts of their experience are generalizable to the rest of the world.
A better example of sustainable development from the same region might be Costa Rica.
