Hello,

I received a job offer from a company in Germany and settled in Essen on August 5 with a job contract. I will start working on September 2. I came with the current type D Visa (1 year) and I want to extend it or convert it to a bluecard. But when I called auslanderbehörde, they said I had to go to the welcome center for this. but I technically do not have a blue card, or am I wrong?

When I went to the appointment website of the city of Essen, I was confused between the Ausländerbehörde and the Welcome- und Service-Center. https://www.essen.de/rathaus/onlinetermine_der_stadtessen.de.html

I also need to register my anmeldung, which one should I do it at?

Thanks in advance

  1. (Termin for) Anmeldung first. When you are at their office you can ask about how to get your relevant ID or aufenthaltstitel.

Added: Your Anmeldung determines which ABH you have to come to get your ID.
