This well researched documentary about the lough was a bit of an eye opener for me to show just how much the lough was affected and how long we knew something like this was coming

Would love to hear all your thoughts as well

  1. I’ve been watching Stephen’s videos for a few years and this is well outside his usual content, but he did a good job of covering it from all angles and his anger is entirely justified.

The fact that we knew about this since the 70s, and back then were able to successfully tackle the problem was an eye-opener for me. But then we hit the 80s – small government, fewer regulations, the markets will solve all problems etc – all ideas that have continued to wreck our society and environment ever since.

The sad thing is that due to human nature we quickly normalise things getting progressively worse, internally and through the information we receive from outside sources like the media. The Lough Neagh situation is worse this year than last, but has barely received any attention in the media.

Next year when it happens again it likely will receive even less attention and in a few years the bacteria blooms will just be accepted as something that happens each summer.
