or will they buy them and turn them over to Russia to reverse engineer them..
Guess they wanted to upgrade from baguettes to fighter jets!
Serbia’s got itself some fancy French jets, trying to play the EU field while keeping Russia on speed dial.
Hmm great that they shift from Russia, but I think we need more time before we start sharing Western military technology with a country that is primarily pro-RU to see how much shifting they really do!
$3 billion for 12 jets is an awful deal. They should have gone with Chinese jets. The J-20 and the FC-31 are true 5th gen jets (the Rafale is just 4.5) and stealthy, and probably would have been cheaper and came with all kinds of Chinese economic incentives.
12 planes cost 3 billion?!
Honestly at this point I would consult Ukraine for how to design better warships considering they sunk most of Russia’s…
Russia doesn’t have planes to sell any more. They need more for their own army
I thought I saw a French war plane, but it was only a mirage.
Suck it UAE 😀
Are the steering wheels on the right?
Ignorant westerners going “Russia, Russia, Russia” like the seagulls from Finding Nemo..
Putin’s been ignoring our president’s phone calls since the start of the war, we sold $800 worth of weapons million to Ukraine and Zelensky’s wife visited Belgrade earlier this year. None of it matters, right? Y’all gotta have someone to point your fingers at..
Bro can’t Serbia just not invest in its military. It’s not like NATO is going to invade and if it does, there is zero point fighting back.
Some historical context for those wondering Why France:
France provided Serbia aircraft and training just before WW1, during the Balkan Wars of liberation, making Serbia one of the first 15 nations to have an air force in 1912 – about 10 years after the Kitty Hawk flew. In general, the two countries have had pretty strong relations around this time period and France sent a good amount of humanitarian aid and military equipment. I forgot the exact numbers, but at one point the Serbian Air Force was very oversized relative to much larger countries due to this. Serbia also got the first AA kill of a plane and first dogfight of WW1.
France wants Serbia to leave Russia and offers nothing in return. We hot forced to buy those planes.
Imagine all the problems that could be solved if we all weren’t so belligerent. $3 Billion invested in their national university would go very far for their country for example.
Nikola Jokic was in Paris for
Olympics during this deal. Coincidence? I think not.
“The European Union needs a strong and democratic Serbia at its side and Serbia needs a strong, sovereign Europe to defend its interests,” Macron said. ″Serbia’s place is in the EU, and it has a role to play to be an example for all the region.”
What’s Macron taking? There are multiple hallucinations here. Vučić promised he won’t share any secrets with Russia, cross his heart, hope to die. Since he’s orthodox, he has to cross his fingers behind his back three times. Or use two hands and one foot.
There’s some weird game going on between the EU and Serbia. They offer membership as a carrot for Serbia to be good children, and Serbia goes along to make Europe think they’ll be good children. It’s clear who’s outsmarting who. Putin plays along by saying Serbia can join the EU but not NATO. Western Europe can be so dumb.
Actually the planes are supposed to arrive by 2040. Maybe they’ll never arrive, or any secrets will be obsolete by then. It’s interesting that Croatia bought 12 and they’ve started training and might be done already.
Even the Serbs got over the Russian weapon fixation….even if Ukraine loses the war, the Russian weapons industry is toast…
