Alvaro negredo actually a half season wonder him or Matija Nastasic 12/13
Negredo for me even if it was just half a season
Or the wonderful Glauber Berti
R*binho or Negredo. Can honestly even consider Jesus Navas 13/14 cus after that he regressed so much
Negredo
It had to be Negredo! Beauty and the Beast was a memorable partnership while it lasted. Honorable mention for Nolito’s celebrations.
I still to this day wonder what Ferran Torres would have turned into if he had stayed
Stephen Ireland.
There really is no other answer imo, was our most consistently inconsistent player before the 2008-09 season. I had a season ticket at the time and he was so frustrating to watch I’d genuinely get angry when he scored – because it meant he was more likely to start the next game.
In the 2008-09 season he absolutely exploded. Won player of the year, formed a partnership with Robinho (who he was second to in goals scored) – he genuinely felt like a new signing. From my point of view, all was forgiven.
Then as soon as the season ended he overtrained to an insane degree. Filmed himself running up a mountain in Nepal or somewhere, and continued this overtraining in preseason. Scored something like 3 goals the next year, never looked the same player and was sold a few years later when Hughes was sacked.
Negredo
Mangala, Fernando, Negredo, Caballero, Bony, There’s been a lot that have looked good for a season or so but never really continued on after that at City.
Negredo
No love for Elano???
Robinho
Robinho, the guy came to the club when everyone saw him as the next pele and surprise surprise he’s in jail today
2001 Wanchope in the first division
Negredo for sure
Negredo
Alvaro Negredo for sure.
Robinho for sure. Not considering Negredo just because it was half season wonder
I previously commented Stephen Ireland, but another good shout is Ali Benarbia. Definitely our most exciting player from our spells in the lower divisions.
Not a one season wonder in the traditional sense though, in that he signed for the club at 33 years of age and was already physically declining even then.
Darren Huckerby said if he’d been signed to an English club even 5 years earlier, he’d be mentioned alongside Gianfranco Zola in terms of ability
Delph playing at LB
Haaland being most athletic is a joke right…………..
Silva does circles around him all game
Alverez
Sane or even sterlings last season
Ali Bernabia, in Div 1, what a player a prototype David Silva.
Negredo, until he did his shoulder and got homesick was really shaping up to be the ideal partner for Aguero.
Elano Blumer – was classy with set pieces.
Martin De Mecheles – second season not the first….
However for me, it’s a bit random, but it sums up where we were at the time:
Daniel Van Buyten – he was pure class a ball playing defender that we couldn’t even find £1m to sign permanently. In contrast to those around him he looked like he’d come from space the quality gap was that big.
Stephen Ireland is the answer. He was unbelievable for us in 2008-09. Then his career nose dived. Negredo better not be the winner, I’m sick of these post 2012 answers for everything. Negredo was a 1/2 season wonder.
Agree with Negredo shout through this but for those of us with longer memories a few shouts…..
Maurizio Gaudino. Came in, scored a few vital goals from attacking midfield (vs Scousers one from memory) then returned to parent club. He was only on loan though. 20 appearances. Showed us some class when we had none.
David Rocastle. Another with 20 appearances. Never saw enough of him. Class act.
Michael Tarnat if only for “that” free kick away at Ewood Park. Came at the end of his career – would’ve been decent in his 20’s.
Emile Mpenza just for the goals that kept us up in 2007/8 (boro away?).
