I accepted a full time job offer that required me to change cities. I see that in skattetaten there is a page that talks about getting tax deduction for relocation due to work ( https://www.skatteetaten.no/en/person/taxes/get-the-taxes-right/employment-benefits-and-pensions/ended-employment-or-started-a-new-job/relocation-expenses-due-to-new-job/ ). I have no idea how to actually input this into my tax.

Another question while I'm at it, what is the difference between table tax and percentage tax? And does it matter which one I go for?

  1. In Norway everyone gets a minimum standard deduction (see link in the link you posted). If your expenses regarding moving exceeds this you can swap the standard deduction with actual deduction for your moving expenses. If you do this you have to account for all the costs and be prepared to document these. However you can’t do any of this until filing of the taxes open next year around February/March.

Table tax is just a table with precalculated tax values for a given income given various deductions. Normally most start out in a table, but if you do changes to your tax card, for instance get a higher salary in May, you’ll be moved to percentage. It’s same same but different and no big deal.
