Well when they make a career in education utterly unappealing what do they expect.
Who would want to be a teacher when.
Children have zero respect.
Being assaulted is seen as an occupational hazard.
Parents see it as your responsibility to teach everything and I mean everything.
Parents will blame you while also saying how useless you are and that little Timmy does not have to listen to them.
Been like that for a while.
The main issue with teaching is burnout and upper management, most of which have step out into the real world and have zero clue about managing adults.
Sure glad Labour have made private education for the middle class more difficult rather than just actually funding schools properly
Did all those schools with the crumbling concrete get fixed or are the kids still getting taught in portacabins?
Supply teachers face lesson plans that they only saw two minutes before walking into the class.
Say what you like about supply teachers, but a major part of any lesson plan is knowing what the content of the lesson is in advance. Supply teachers are being set up to fail, and by extension the admin of the schools of are setting up their kids to fail, by not telling supply teachers what they are supposed to teach with enough notice to actually review and rehearse the planned lessons.
I think we all agree that this is because being a teacher is a shit gig but how do you fix it? I don’t think just increasing pay is enough. There needs to be more protection for teachers. But I’m not sure how this can be done.
Teachers and school staff head back to school facing daily physical assaults from children, online attacks from parents and the expectation to teach everything under the sun
Don’t worry, all that sweet sweet VAT from private schools wil be along any minute now to solve education.
It’s coming.
Pretty soon now.
Mmmm I can taste it.
I dread to think how bad the situation at my school will be when i go back in September, Staff turnover has been very high (i’d say 60-85% of the teachers around in 2022-23 are now gone) & it seems some subjects may not even be options at A Level for those going into Year 12 from what ive heard. Thankfully, im in Year 13 & my subjects remain unaffected from as far as im aware of.
“Pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and those in southern England are among those worst affected by teacher shortages“
So 80% of the country
Don’t fear, migrant teachers and flooding across the borders. Staff shortages will be fixed soon.
I’m a head of year, this has been going on for some time. The job itself is utterly exhausting, mentally and physically. The children have zero respect these days, the parents are horrendous to deal with.
We have staff leaving at alarming rates, 7 before summer broke off. Also, staff within the school naturally become more toxic towards each other, its not a nice environment..generally, 90% of the kids are amazing, however the 10% that mis behave, are quite a handful.
