I recently made some stupid driving mistakes and got blitzed going 22kmh over the limit außerorts on the Bundesstrasse, and got blitzed running red light (under 0.5s after it turned red). The way I understand it from [Bußgeldkatalog](https://www.bussgeldkatalog.org/), each offense will be 100€ and get me 1 point (total, 200€ and 2 points).

This isn’t insanely restrictive. I can afford the payment, and 2 points were earned individually and are less than 5, so I’m not yet to any concerning level at risk of losing my license (as far as I know). Is it worth to try and fight the penalites through a lawyer (i.e. [Rechtsanwälte Biernacki](https://bbrae.de/) through [Blitzerkanzlei](https://blitzerkanzlei.de/))? I don’t think I have any legal insurance, which could likely make this a little more difficult.

For me, it’d be nice to not have any points on my record, but have a feeling the legal process would likely cost way more than 200€, so it might not be worth it. Anyone have any experience or wisdom to share on this point?

  1. Well… you did it and if you got blitzed they have photographic evidence to prove that you did it. What exactly are you planning to fight here? You have no ground to stand on.

Be glad if it’s only a fine that small and stop driving like an idiot.

  2. For around 200€ you are roughly getting an “anwaltliche Erstberatung” (which is only the first 1hr consultation for legal counsel). Just pay up the 200€ and learn from your mistakes certainly is cheaper – also might be a good idea in the long run if you want to keep your license.

  3. I don’t quite understand what the argument would be. You did it and they have evidence.

The last time I needed a lawyer it would have cost me over 200 Euro for him to talk to me and write a simple letter to the other party (luckily I had insurance)

  4. If I remember correctly, running a red light should usually result in the loss of your driving licence for one month, so are you sure about these 0.5 secs?
