I never got this fucking cheese and it infuriates me
…Well it slightly bothers me occasionally, I feel like I missed out on something
Was great cheese, led to a massive grilled cheese Addiction was having about 8 a day
Dairygold was a client of mine at the time. Remember being in one of their huge store rooms, and the guy on site says to me “that’s what €20 million of cheese looks like”. It was an insane amount of cheese. More than I can describe, and I never got so much as a slice of it.
I got EU Aid butter. Never got cheese though
Was good stuff
Remember the folks who were a little too snobbish to take it
Still have mine in the freezer ready to go
How was it even distributed?
I remember we had a block of it and some rice but I dunno how it got there?
I moved back to Ireland in 2013 after leaving in the mid 90’s as a kid, so sort of missed the recession. Can someone explain this to me please? Did the EU legitimately distribute food aid here?
Why would making public transport significantly cheaper remind you of cheddar? Its a good use of money.
Stock up folks this gonna be a luxury next year! The russkies gonna be getting shore leave & pounding the guinness brewery with empty vodka bottles resulting in another increase of MUP because we need fighter jets to fight them off now because it’s all fucked now, fucked I tell ya!
I actually remember it being of really high quality.
As a point of comparison, here’s our “government cheese”:
Brian Lenihan/Bendan Smith: “there will never be a more useless idea to solve financial problems than us giving people cheese”.
Pascal Donohoe/Michael McGrath “Hold our beer and give us a look at that Luas ticket”
EU food mountain. We got cheese, tins of corned beef etc. Was all grand.
I remember in the 80’s recession… People on the dole got butter vouchers
That cheese was fucking delicious.
Never got mine.
In the 80’s as well as the butter vouchers there was a butter mountain (possibly cheese & beef too?) which was given I think to folk on the dole, I vaguely remember queueing for it with my mother 40 years ago
