Russia ’determined to take key Donbas cities before winter’ | Professor Michael Clarke

Russia looks “determined” to take key cities in the Donbas “before the winter” as Ukraine focuses on Kursk, according to Sky’s military analyst Michael Clarke.

He told Sky News the strategy could be risky for President Zelenskyy’s leadership, as Russia will take “any amount of losses” to get the cities of Pokrovsk and Chasiv Yar before setting its sights on the rest of the Donbas.

The Ukrainian leader has sacked the commander of his airforce after a F-16 plane was destroyed during a Russian bombardment four days ago.

  12. Please change the title, Russia is determined to protect Donbas and the Russian speaking Ukrainian from the murderous action from Kiev. Putin told them not to kill the Russian speaking Ukrainian many times, and all the new networks have been barred from telling the truth. They did not listen, hence the war. The people in Donbas has already voted to joined the Russian Federation – this is now a fact. So it is too late. The Kiev govt was given the chance (if they stopped killing people, Russia would not need to step in and help them). And if CIA did not do Regime Change, then 500,000 Ukrainian would not have died. So please (1) Allow people to report the truth (2) Accept the reality.

  16. There are two explanations why the F16 cane down: pilot error or friendly fire. This has been reported by every politician and military analyst in the UK, US and Canada. However, the truth was that a Russian missile took it down. I am curious why they are not even mentioning a possibility of this?

  20. Must be good to have such good contacts in the Russian military to know their plans.
    Meanwhile in the real world, it looks like the Kursk front has stretched Ukraine forces too thinly and the Russians have broken through the weak areas and are on the rampage. If Ukraine moves troops to stabilise the situation, they will leave other areas thinly manned and the Russians will break through there if it suits their plans.

    This is what losing a war of attrition looks like.
