I am a UK citizen resident in Germany. My mother passed away recently and as the sole beneficiary of her estate, I stand to inherit around 300k GBP and a house worth 330k GBP. So approx 630k GBP. For my situation, my tax free allowance in the UK is 1m GBP. Therefore I do not need to pay any inheritance tax.

It just occured to me however that Lindner needs his taste, and I may need to pay inheritance tax in Germany. I found the below link and it would be 15% on everything above 400k €.

Does anyone here gave experience posting inheritance tax in Germany? I already have a Steuerberater who I’ll be consulting, but I’d be interested in hearing some personal stories regarding inheritance tax in Germany as an immigrant.

  1. Talk to the tax adviser.

The estate in UK(?) Is not domestic. But if you live in germany you may have to pay taxes on it.
UK tax may be credited. But if there is no uk inheritance tax you may have to pay full ger tax.

Edit: most german tax advisors may not be too educated in internstional inheritance taxation

    No, it’s 7% for €75.000 above €400.000, then 11% for the next €225.000 then 15% for the next €300.000.
