Well lets hope to see Finland, Ukraine and Georgia (country) joining next.
So yeah, completely unreasonable Russia tries to intimidate nato in order to prevent further expansion.
Portugal joined in 1949? Considering this, didn’t the NATO members have to defend Portugal against the Indian invasion of Goa?
I was born in a country that has an 8,891 km border with the United States and that border is not militarised. We do not spend every day fearing they might capture southern Ontario or take British Columbia to connect Alaska with Washington. Guess why.
We are a peaceful country that is not run by a corrupt criminal gang. The US has no reason to fear us and we have no reason to fear them.
All the talk of NATO expansion, as if it is some kind of evil empire, is just propaganda. The countries in NATO want one thing: safety.
Do individual countries within NATO have other goals? Yes. But NATO does not have to be a part of them. Take the common Russian propaganda example of Iraq. That was a US invasion, not a NATO one. Many NATO countries did not join and the US could not compel them to join.
At any rate, Russia is safe because they have nukes. The only thing that isn’t safe is their control over sovereign countries. If you look at this map and see an aggressive expansion, ask yourself why you don’t think Poland or Estonia or Ukraine should be free countries.
Turkey joined before Germany?? TIL
It won’t stop until Russia is fragmented in a lot of little states and all of them are third world shitholes. Like they should have become in the 90’s. How dare Russia still exist and not be completely complacent?
The west are perfectly happy to profit from the oligarchs, money laundry, and cheap labour from Russia. We’re all too happy in seeing the complete Degeneracy there in the 90’s, when Russia was getting into their “rightful place” of being a third world dying of hunger, and only profiting with the integration of the oligarchs and weapons selling they made.
If half the effort done to punish Russia was done to try and integrate them instead of only wanting to profit from the oligarchs there, enabling the worst of the country during this time, we would not be in this situation.
Thing is, NATO and co wanted to treat Russia the same way Latin America and Africa were treated, syphoning resources, enabling the worst elites because they helped to bring profit home, and it being a “pet third world country”. But since it is a military powerhouse and is right next to Europe, all this attitude has come home to roost. And now the west acts all with Pikachu face.
Hope those Nazi militias killing people in the east are worth it.
So… To Gorbachev they promised not to go East in 1990 and it seems that they lied, is that correct?

The only former soviet countries are the baltics, and they are not even tied to Russia culturally.
