Macron rejects idea of left-wing PM candidate • FRANCE 24 English

French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted a string of French party leaders at the presidential Elysée Palace since Friday in hopes of finding a candidate for prime minister that would not immediately be toppled in a no-confidence vote in parliament. That is exactly what far-right National Rally party leaders Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen promised they would do if the French president appoints a premier from the left-wing New Popular Front alliance that won the most seats in the snap parliamentary elections held after the president dissolved the National Assembly earlier this summer.

  1. Ah yes, a classic. Liberals would rather appease the fash than work with the left, no surprise here. Gotta protect that capital.

  2. A centrist (or someone who calls themselves that) will always prefer the far right to the far left. Which should give us pause the next time any politician tells us in a comforting tone that they're a 'centrist to the core' or some such nonsense.

  3. I'm sorry but this is genuinely a subversion of democracy. The leftist coalition was democratically elected in and refusing to allow them to take the seats that they democratically owned as a subversion of that will of people

  4. Very bad move from Macron. Ignoring the election results will end up in political catastrophe in France.

  5. Left wing would be terrible for France, having the immigration issue in consideration. It would catapult the far right to the absolute victory next elections.

  6. The title is wrong, he doesn't name a far left pm because he know that the government will be impeached. Hence plunging france into an even harder political crisis. Anyways, maybe having no government might be the safest and least dangerous solution

  7. Coup de etat from Macron. Technocrats and far right help each other when the left succeeds. Solidarity to Jean Luc Melenchon and French left from Greece.
