Why Greece is cracking down on sunbed rentals on its beaches | Focus on Europe

Greece’s beaches generate a lot of business during the holiday season —leaving hardly any space for locals. New patrols are helping to prevent unlicensed businesses from illegally renting out sunbeds.

  1. About TIME…these Bar Owners and Motel Operators think THEY OWN THE BEACHES…ABSOLUTE RIP OFFS….GET THEM …OUT…!!!

  2. This is all over Italy even in Italy. Pushing tourists and locals to pay to access the beach. Rental fees are becoming absolutely ridiculous. In North American NOBODY can “rent” beaches.

  3. Almost nobody follows the rules/law in Greece (especially those with close ties to the gov party) and the current government (ND) is looking the other way.
A good example are the beaches in Rhodos that most of them are 110% covered in sunbeds (and the included debris inside the sea) … common people are making hundreds or thousands of official complaints and nobody from the goverment is doing anything else apart from tv comments and false promises.

  4. We were recently at Kolybithres Beach in Paros, and one of the beach chair operators wanted 130 Euros for a pair of chairs/umbrella!!!!! Of course we didn't pay it, but they were 'hogging' the best part of the beach with their chairs, which is unfair!

  5. Kudos to the Greeks who could at least partially free their beaches. In Türkiye, it's a disaster. The Tourism Mafia bosses do whatever they want.

  6. This is not just "an app" it is the app that the government made. It was an initiative from the government.
Also the translation is not very good. For example the woman says people should have the option the choice how they want to spend their time and the translation was "people should do as they please"

  7. She's "fighting for her rights for everything to be free for everybody" is the most naive part of this video.

  8. Stop supporting organized beaches and beach bars, they depend on tourists and try to overcharged them. I'm Greek and I've stopped going years ago.
There are many free beaches to visit as well, just ask locals.

  9. Το υπουργειο Οικονομικών η μεγαλυτερη πόρνη παει να ελεγξει τα μαγαζια μηπως χασει καμια μιζα για τον κο Μιζοτακι

  10. July 31-August 1, 2024 the government through "pressure" voted in parliament to suspend all fines or sanctions imposed by ……………

  11. Tbh I don't understand why the lady is complaining I would rather have a nice sunbed than lay on the horrible stone beach ⛱️ and there does seem to be alot of free space around where she is sitting just my opinion 😊

  12. As a local I have my own equipment and I will never going to give my money to something that should be 100/100 free do the same , don’t support them

  13. I was there few days ago in Vassilikos, first time in Zakynthos. There's nothing beautiful about some of the beaches anymore, the sea itself ok but the beaches are ridiculous full of sunbeds takes away the whole beauty and view of the the island's beaches.

The best quiet without beds and people I could find up till now was in Gerakas Beach, if you enter to the right on the rocky part of the beach.

I know for a lot of people this is what holiday looks like and that's fine obviously but not for me, I do not like it.

Also heard the Taxi driver say "banana Beach is beautiful", well it's not, only sunbeds from left to right, you literally do not see the beach itself, loud music coming from the bars, this is not relaxing.

  14. Tell that to our prime minister who has given all our beaches (close to Athens) to hotels and you have to pay an entrance. The government rents the beaches to the bar owners. 😡

  15. As a greek citizen i am happy to inform you that our dear government decided that no business needs to pay fines even with illegal businesses…thats greece for you

  16. Νο natural beauty left ….its abt greed .
    No authorities…no laws implemented…
Ask the locals abt rents, wages ….
Greece has been sold off .
Greece will be a place a concrete jungle with umbrellas.

  17. The Law is like a rail crossing barrier: the ox rams his head into it and stops, the big dogs jump over it and the little dogs walk under it. Which one are you?

  18. Same in Albania, bunch of dudes putting their sunbeds on beaches everywhere and asking for money pushing people further away acting like the beach is theirs, and that’s in the place where there’s not even one restaurant nearby to claim it 🤣😂☠️

  19. I remember being in Greece in 2018 and the sunbeds were free of charge if you got a frappe coffee and water max 4€ for both of them, I don’t think it’s the case anymore 😢
