  1. > U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan plans to move ahead with the case accusing former President Donald Trump of subverting the 2020 presidential election results, telling Trump’s attorneys that she is “not concerned with the electoral schedule.”

    > Trump’s attorney John Lauro argued that Smith wanting to file “at breakneck speed” is “incredibly unfair that they are able to put in the public record (evidence) at this sensitive time in our nation’s history.”

    > “I understand there’s an election impending,” Chutkan snapped back, reminding him that it “is not relevant here.”

Thank you Judge Chutkan for respecting the rule of law and its proceedings and not being a complete partisan hack like Aileen Cannon.

  2. So if I understand Trump correctly – no one in politics should be held accountable because it’s unfair, perpetually inconvenient, and he has the right to do anything he wants anyways.

    Is that about it?

  3. Nor should it be. Running for office isn’t relevant. If you don’t want your campaign for elected office to be impacted by your criminal trial… maybe… and I’m just spitaballing here… don’t commit crimes.

  4. Good, I can’t delay a trial if my work is in the way, why should anyone?

  5. Pedal to the metal, Judge Chutkan. The previously-convicted felon is entitled to a fair and speedy trial.

  6. Still keeping my expectations at “fines only”.

In the very unlikely event of jail time, they’ll announce it’s either house arrest or he won’t go until after the election

  7. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://ncnewsline.com/2024/09/05/judge-in-trumps-jan-6-case-says-it-wont-be-delayed-by-upcoming-presidential-election/) reduced by 87%. (I’m a bot)

    > WASHINGTON – Exactly two months out from the presidential election, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan plans to move ahead with the case accusing former President Donald Trump of subverting the 2020 presidential election results, telling Trump's attorneys that she is "Not concerned with the electoral schedule.”

    > Chutkan's anticipated new timeline for the case – which she could release as early as Thursday – is still expected to assure Trump will not face trial before Election Day in November.

    > Trump plans to file a motion to dismiss the case based on the Supreme Court's June ruling that a Jan. 6 rioter could not be charged with obstructing an official proceeding – a charge that Trump also faces.

  8. I realize this doesn’t mean a trial will happen anytime soon, but this argument was always total nonsense and I’m glad she’s rejecting it.

“But voters might be influenced by the fact that I committed crimes!!”

  9. He has to lose the election for there to be any consequences. Don’t wait and hope that the legal system will save this country, it might not.

Register, volunteer, and vote to keep this Felon out.

  10. >The case had been in a holding pattern for eight months as Trump appealed his claim of presidential immunity all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Chutkan’s anticipated new timeline for the case — which she could release as early as Thursday — is still expected to assure Trump will not face trial before Election Day in November.

Still won’t seem to happen before the election unfortunately

  11. America and the world should get to see the evidence against Trump. If it’s as bad as the Jan 6 commission the man should never hold office again and be in jail.

  12. I mean.. He admitted he lost yesterday right? So the argument should be is when did he know? And if it was after January 6th what new information finally swayed him to admit it publicy?

  13. **Jail?**

    Nah, he’s cray cray!

Throw him in the psych ward. He may become a danger to the general population in prison.

  14. But, You Honor, this trial is going to wreak havoc in my social schedule!

  15. I still can’t believe how close we are to having a fascist dictator for a president…. It doesn’t seem real at all, how is he even able to run at this point? We seriously need some better checks and balances in place.

  16. He’ll be stuck in court and weird JD Vance will have to campaign for him. This should be fun.

  17. It’s called the “court of law” and not the “court of politics” for a reason; the election is outside her consideration.

  18. He already admitted to it, so it should be a pretty short trial.

  19. It will permanently end if the Republicans take the white house before it ends. VOTE.

  20. You don’t get to avoid criminal prosecution simply because you are running for president. Sorry, asshole.

  21. He’s right. This is a sensitive time in our nation’s history. We have a presidential nominee who is accused of subverting election results in a past election.

That evidence is exactly the evidence that should be made public record BEFORE the impending election.

  22. I mean, he just admitted that he lost the election fairly. This should be an open/shut case. He got those idiots to storm the capitol for him (still not clear on what that was supposed to accomplish). Then, on his way out, didn’t pardon a single one of them. Which is hilarious, because he signed an executive order to give out harsher punishments for people that vandalize federal property. With all of this knowledge in mind, they will still vote for him.
