If Trump wins the election, it will doom our efforts to slow climate disaster. Consequences could reverberate for a million years.

  1. So true!
A more pressing issue will be the undermining of NATO and the corresponding emboldened authoritarian states. The western democracies that are championing climate issues will have additional existential threats to manage.

  2. True, but kind of round about…

Climate collapse is already inevitable given the current and short-term projected GHGs already present. 4C of warming will happen even if all civilization vanished today.

Given that, I don’t see how 4 years of any political party leadership could affect any of the longer term possibilities. Overshoot has already reached catastrophic proportions for the continuance of civilization, so it really doesn’t matter now.

  3. The post sounds like it’s overstating the danger, but it’s not. The change in Earth’s atmosphere is irreversible in the span of a human lifetime and indeed for generations to come.

  4. Sorry, but this headline is almost a decade to late

  5. I don’t understand why anyone thinks either party is even marginally different when it comes to our ecological future. The difference is so small it’s incalculable. Vote for who you want, but don’t gaslight yourself into thinking you’re casting a vote for the environment. If you want to make change, eat less meat and get involved with local efforts for carbon friendly solutions to real time emissions. You can’t start a business by telling other people what to do, you have to do the work yourself, and grow in numbers and reach. If you want to make a change, align with like minds in your own efforts. We obviously need to enlist policy makers that match our values, but the ecological delta between national candidates is effectively zero. Have a salad, and enjoy what’s left of our beautiful earth. It’s okay to be a bit nihilistic, if you’re hinging hope on anyone but yourself, for peace, good luck.

  6. There’s no need to worry. The human race probably won’t be around in a thousand years, never mind a million.

  7. Go out and vote! And bring your friends to vote as well. Harris can win this, but we all need to do our part by actually voting 🗳️

  8. So tell your American friends to vote, especially if they are in swing states. Unless of course they are a trump supporter who for some reason is also into climate change. Not sure what to do about that group.

  9. A win for Trumop would be a catastrophe not just on the environmental scene, but in every other way imaginable. He’s crazy-mean and getting worse.

  10. Trump won’t win the election.  The danger is hell steal it out the courts will hand it to him. Of course everybody needs to vote to make sure it goes this way, but realistically the threat here comes after the voting.
