It’s also an incredible conflict of interest when it comes to voting for or against housing legislation, too.

Wasn’t this guy involved in some other shady shit a while back too? I really should know as I live in Redbridge. Either way, I don’t really see how he can remain in position. He needs to resign / be sacked.
I honestly think that MPs shouldn’t be allowed to be landlords at all
They’ll always vote in policies that benefit them and screw over tenants
Weird how I have to disclose my conflicts of interest at work, but he’s fine to vote on housing etc as a slum lord
David Mitchell made this point, and I agree with him. MPs should be paid more, but they must surrender all of their business assets once they become MPs, and being an MP should be their sole source of income. Anything other than that should be illegal. Otherwise, there will inevitably be conflicts of interest.
>when asked why Mr Athwal was not being punished, Sir Keir Starmer said the Ilford South MP was taking action to put it right.
I agree that he should have the opportunity to put things right, but I’d want to know – in the sense of it being made public, as it’s in the public interest – precisely what those actions are, what sort of compensation he’s offering his tenants, who the offending managing agents were, why he had no oversight of their work (or lack thereof), and who he’s appointing in their place.
…And then I’d *still* want him kicked out of his seat.
I bet he squeezes every single penny he can
Makes you wonder what his MP expenses look like
Landlords who are bad landlords should face action… why just mps
