Hi folks. My wife and I are in a tricky spot with her career. My wife is an English speaking speech therapist. She moved to Germany with me one year ago and got from zero to C1 in one year (nicht schlecht).

The requirement for foreign speech therapists was always C1. We have multiple sources saying this.

The requirement has now suddenly (we don’t know when) changed to C2.

This site in English still says C1:

https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/331463/en/

But if you switch it to German it now says C2!

This source and others have now have it as C2.

https://www.berlin.de/lageso/gesundheit/berufe-im-gesundheitswesen/ausbildung-ausserhalb-der-europaeischen-union-drittstaat/nichtakademische-berufe/

She did the Prüfung already with huge effort and some expense. Basically we oriented our lives towards this goal, during which she couldn’t work.

This is going to be a massive delay in our lives, involving having to resume German courses and booking and paying for a new test.

But this is the real blow: we both have doubts that she will ever be able to achieve C2. She just scraped through with C1. C2 is a huge step up. And for anyone thinking that she shouldn’t be working with German speaking clients with only C1: yes, we know. The plan is to only work with English-speaking clients in need of therapy, of which there are many.

We are devastated. She did everything required of her (achieving an amazing level in just one years), putting her career on hold, and then the goalposts were moved.

We are thinking we might have to leave Germany after wasting a year trying to achieve this.

Does anyone have any insight? Nothing can be done about this right?
