I’ve always wanted to travel back to Wales and learn more about sword smithing and eventually forge my own sword. Any recommendations on where to visit that will allow me to forge a sword from anywhere between 500-1500£? What should I look for in reputable forges?

The main one I’ve found is the Old Field Forge located at: https://www.oldfieldforge.co.uk/.

  1. There are quite a few blacksmiths in rural Wales. If you want traditional, try contacting some of them in whatever area you’re going to

  2. I’ve personally been to Oldfield. It’s tricky to get to, but the guys are great and so knowledgeable. Would recommend.

  3. Phoenix forge in Carmarthen- great place, did an axe making course there !

  4. There is a lake somewhere where there might still be a sword at the bottom … just be careful, if you do find it, it does come with some responsibilities.

But seriously, I know a few blacksmiths (not in Wales unfortunately) so I need to go and speak to them about this idea too. The place in Carmarthen looks interesting (thanks u/yrhendystu ! )

  5. Phoenix Forge in Carmarthen give Will a call top bloke!

  6. I have never before cared about sword forging, but I’m suddenly considering it.

  7. Technically speaking, I own a blacksmith. But it is in reality, a ruin. But I do have dreams of one day restoring it if anyone has a spare half a million that they don’t want?

  8. Oldfield Forge is recommended and is touching distance of the border and a very interesting area
