  1. Badger – there is a housing shortage in this country. Instead of highlighting that housing is going to people you don’t like, what is your solution to the actual problem?

    Will buy you a pint.

  2. What’s the difference between a foreign student and an asylum seeker?

One went to the trouble of getting a visa while the other gets rent-free accommodation.

  3. Wont be long before this happens to other “purpose built” student accommodation that can’t be filled

  4. The article says it’s “been confirmed” without saying who confirmed it. Something is fishy here.

  5. Irish people should be allocated the scarce housing that we do have, over foreigners, especially where they have flown here from a safe country.

  6. For the far right right supporters rabidly trying to defend their prejudices, you lost badly in the June elections. The Irish people reject your views.

  7. Look I get it we don’t like what’s going on. There are people riled up about people coming here which I can not comprehend. We are a nation of movers. Who amongst us here have family abroad? What were they fleeing from? Do we not remember the trick to getting into the US twice with Irish passports?

  8. I could have sworn this was announced months if not a year ago and not a peep or bit of push back since that

  9. Hahaha! I’m 44 and been trying to get back into school. There’s a course up in Sligo for sustainable building a wood technology that I would love to do but there’s not a single place to rent up there. So I’m stuck on the dole squatting a derelict house in the country because there’s nowhere else for me to go. Maybe I should head up and ask these asylum seekers where they came from, maybe I can find a place to live there.

  10. It’s Great to be able to help these poor souls.

Sligo Will Have A Warm Welcome For them!

  11. It’s a joke. Nursing homes and student accommodation. All about money

  12. Housing market and asylum scheme working as intended. Ireland is only for a small percentage of Irish people. The rest will be killed off for far more profitable alternatives.

Why support people owning a house and raising children when you can have each room of that asset rented out as it’s value continues to increase in perpetuity. The lost labour from no children being born will be replaced with imported labour housed in private accommodation and paid for with tax money.

  13. I’m not going to hate on those migrants as they are still human beings and who wouldn’t try to improve their lives by fleeing worse off countries but this is an absolute pisstake and a spit in the face of locals that cant find or afford to rent or buy property. Mass protests are needed against TD’s and service industry providers and staff should have a national boycott against govt politicians. Make their lives difficult.

  14. Oh handy , change of purpose planning coming right up…next .

  15. When do we start revolution? Why are people happy to have state money meant to be used for the public good handed over to cronies?
