Unfortunately, oil demand could peak around 2035 so Pakistan may not be able to make the most of it tho it can pay off their IMF loans in the short term
Offshore oil and gas. Pakistan will need foreign drilling companies. Not like Saudi Arabia or Iran, where drilling costs are low.
Remember when big gas and oil tried to sell the liie you’d run out of fossil fuels so they could hike up the prices? That was funny!
Oil and gas still hit peak demand in a few years of most of this will go untapped, but it’s probably at least good internally for Pakistan in the short run. Batteries and solar are already cheaper than most anything besides natural gas and still rapidly dropping in price, soo good luck on capitalizing on that much since it will take decades to develop.
Not saying oil and gas demand will drop off completely, but most of the nations with large oil and gas supplies basically have no other economy beside selling oil and gas. The US is one of the few nations that, with shale oil development, has a lot of gas and oil but it’s economy is not reliant on the exports.
All those other nations are going to be in an endless bidding war to sell reserves they’ve already developed with infrastructure that’s already paid for. It will be a rough market for large scale expansion to new areas, but still certain worth it for Pakistan, just not likely impactful to the global market.
Could mean trouble for Iran, China buys 90% of their oil
Oh great. More authoritarian policies funded by oil money. Never seen that before.
Sounds like Pakistan need some Freedom!!
Well, enjoy freedom and democracy. Coming soon!
Grape
Conventional or unconventional oil? If it’s the latter, it’s not going to be cheap extracting it. Also, exploration and confirmation require significant investment and Pakistan could see itself adding to its already massive debt to proceed with these. I could see them tapping Chinese service companies like CNOOC or COSL.
Did anyone hear that Eagle screech?
Please keep it in the ground, inshallah.
Will they invest into their people or just in arms?
I guess we now know where the next major conflict and destabilization will take place.
Pakistan = army. They will steal it.
Why hasn’t it been found before ?
Also which Premier League team will they buy ?
#BY GOD THAT’S AMERICA’S MUSIC
What would the world be if we never had oil?
Just what the world needed.
Why is it always some kind of authoritarian regime…
And now India wants them back
Huge geopolitical implication if it is true
You hear that? 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅 Freedom is coming.
Great, oil industry will want to keep the west locked into paying money to yet another backward near medieval state, with Islamic laws.
Just what the world needs; a bunch of crazies, with nukes, money and a hard on for India.
“…In totally unrelated news, the country of India has declared war on Pakistan.”
Yay, an extremist government has not only access to nukes but also to oil wealth. What could go wrong?
This is terrible news for the Pakistani people. The government having access to huge amounts of natural resource wealth historically means it can be as authoritarian as they want without ever running out of money to pay the army so they stay on their side. The people usually never see any of that wealth.
uh ooooh, sounds like Pakistan finally needs to be liberated from their evil government and get freedom and democracy.
