British households may face another energy price hike, regulator says

  1. They shouldn’t have increased the cap

Just make them all collapse and re-nationalise.

It’d not be difficult if we didn’t have these bags of shite in power.

  2. Perhaps if we had a government that was fit for purpose, this could be averted? Just a suggestion.

  3. How about tax their profits

There is no more money to spend you dumb fucks

There should be levy whereby should the avg price of fuel exceed a certain level from the year before or from an average level, that further profits are taxed to mitigate the rising cost

  4. The fact that even those earning above minimum wage or people who have a low cost of living are starting to tighten their belts due to the cost of living increase should be a concern for the Government.

We’ve been on minimum wage for a large part of our adult lives until reasonably recently, and we struggled – that was before costs went mental. I dread to think how bad it must be for people on minimum wage now, and they’re telling us it’s going to get worse?

    Fuck’s sake.

When people have nothing else to lose, that’s when they start going mental.

  5. Glad I fixed for a year a week ago.

28.47p kWh for electricity, and 5.65p for gas.

~80% of the new cap for gas, and only 1.4% extra for electric.

  6. What’s the price per kWh right now?

I just got a letter from my supplier (I’m in NI so can’t switch) that there is another increase coming up this month to something like 14p/kWh for first 2000kW and 11p/kWh for anything over 2000kW.

  7. I don’t understand people in this country at all.

The Tories whole economic policy basis is “let the free markets rip and sure we’ll end up with inequality but we’ll also end up with low prices.”

And yet now we’re seeing surging prices too! It’s literally the worst of both worlds with them, shitty, broken, dysfunctional markets which don’t reduce prices and a vampiric free for all where the rich just shit on the poor all day.

Why do people accept this? We need a proper energy policy over the next 2 decades, that’s the only thing that will really help, but where is it? Why aren’t their approval ratings -100?

  8. they never put the costs down though do they? just like petrol, they’ll keep costs as high as possible because everyone will pay it, and that will be the new normal. it’s getting to the point where even multi income households can’t afford everything. jesus. how much more can we endure?

  9. How can they raise it again whilst also making massive profit? In what world can a regulator agree that’s acceptable? Surely at some point, along with fuel prices and their enormous profits, somethings got to give? People will end up rioting.

  10. We’re lucky enough (at the moment) to be able to cover the increase but it will be by cutting back on spending.

Lack of spending plus increased costs is going to destroy business. We’re heading back to boom and bust economics.

  11. Young people, just remember when you are trying to pay the energy bills on your rental apartment it will be your selfish fault you cant buy a house and the property market collapses

Of course I don’t think that way, but I can almost see the headlines now.

  12. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

The price will continue to go up until it gets to or exceeds the wholesale price of energy plus some margin. This isn’t really another hike. It’s the same price hike, but we have a system that only gradually forces it on consumers.
