> “They think about my mortality. They worry about my mortality,” John says in the film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Friday, Sept. 6.
> According to John, his two sons “love their daddy, so they want me to be around forever, [and] I would love to be around forever.”
> **”I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows?” John says. “You never know.”**
> “So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around,” he adds. “Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
I mean, potentially not being around for the big adult milestones is kind of the price of admission when you have kids in your 60’s (and 70’s and 80’s). It’s something I worry about, and I had kids in my late 30s.
It’s selfish to have kids when you are that old. Worrying about a parents mortality is a heavy burden to put on a kid. At least generally in the case of famous people, the other parent is decades younger so they’ll hopefully be around for a while.
So the average life expectancy for males in the uk is 80 (76 in the us), and the boys are 11 and 13, so technically Elton could so be around to see them get married if they marry before 30
Having babies after 40 just because you can is selfish, accidents happen but 😉
His kids are getting naff all in inheritance also.
Those kids will be better taken care of for the rest of their lives than 99% of the rest of the world. He should have more kids out of selflessness.
That is why it is selfish to have kids past a certain age
I’m sorry, but this is exactly why I find it disturbing when men like Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have babies in their 80s. They both had a new child this past year and they’ll very likely be gone before those children even reach adulthood, and it’s heartbreaking. Having kids that late in life is so selfish—knowing you won’t be around long enough to support them through the critical stages of growing up. Very few people live past 100, and even if they do, they’re still 100 and can’t be an active father to young children or teenagers. They’ll be in their 90s when they’re 10….
I’m glad Elton is at least acknowledging it and admitting he’s concerned, but the kids are already here, so there’s not much that can be done now. I do wonder how old Elton’s partner is—I hope he’s at least a bit younger so the kids will have one parent around for longer.
He hasn’t looked that good in 30 years. Good for you Elton.
My father died before he turned 50; I was nine. Since he was sick for three years before he died, I don’t have a lot of good memories of him. Elton John seems committed to making memories with his kids, and is able to give them his time and love. Giving those children the best of himself is the greatest gift he can give them.
