Highway wildlife crossing in The Netherlands

  1. Infrastructure for car/bikes is heaven in The Netherlands. Live close to the border and I always go there for cycling.

  2. Note that this isn’t only beneficial for the wildlife, it also reduces the risks coming from having to avoid hitting a deer at 120km/h.

  3. These are great, but I can’t help but think that this is the perfect spot for a predator. Guaranteed regular meals…

  4. Yes they’re everywhere. I live close to one but it’s just a bridge with trees on it. Eventually it’s just something that’s there. But it’s a very clever invention

  5. I always pass this exact wildlife crossing when commuting to work. I am so grateful to not have to worry about wildlife crossing the roads. Although I don’t think they pop their heads out during rush hour.

  6. I think about this all the time when I see dead animals on 65. I was driving to Chicago a few months back and saw 5 dead deer on the same trip N. I’d never seen so many. I wish we provided for wildlife crossing like this.

  7. If we could have more of these tunnels in cities then I think noise pollution and exhaust gases can be brought down with that

  8. They have a bunch of these in Banff national park in Canada! They have been very effective in preventing wildlife vehicle collisions.

One interesting thing is that the wolves have figured these out and use them essentially as a funnel for their prey

  9. How much wildlife is there in Netherlands anyways? I have a feeling that Netherlands is the most densely populated country in Europe

  10. Are the roads fenced off?
If not, I don’t think wild animals are instructed to use the bridge instead of running across the road.
