Seven months after the deadly floods that hit Wallonia, some 57,000 files have been submitted to the insurance companies. Of these, 26,000 have been closed, Walloon Minister-President Elio Di Rupo told a committee of the Walloon parliament on Monday. “It’s Dantesque,” he said.
“Assuralia – the sector’s federation – sends us a monthly report. The latest figures we have were drawn up at the end of December. At that date, the estimated damage amounts for simple risks reached 2.052 billion euros. The compensation amounted to 1.046 billion euros”, Elio Di Rupo detailed.
As a reminder, a rendezvous clause has been provided for, implying a renegotiation of the distribution of budgetary efforts between the sector and the authorities, particularly if these indemnifications exceed 1.5 billion euros. “This clause has not yet been activated and we have not had any negotiations with the insurers on this subject”, the Minister-President added.
He also referred to the claims submitted to the Disaster Fund: 5,700 to date, often incomplete, said Di Rupo.
“Please submit your original insurance contract, along with pictures of the damage, water damage on wall paint, water damage on wood, also keep all broken devices + purchase receipt so they can be inspected by our case officer”
….. 😟B….. But our entire house is gone, and everything inside was swept away by the water!
