For months he’s been on about a EU defence force, being a global player, and the minute the chance to actually prove that France and Germany do less than the UK, a non-eu member.

If the EU wants to be competitive in the space industry they need to focus public institutions on moonshot and scientific research into future technologies and exploration while handing over day to day infrastructure requirements over to the private sector.

Sovereignty is about protecting your important things too, and neither Macron nor anyone else is doing anything to protect our important assets in space. We can protect our assets right now without France telling us to pay more towards the (French) rocket reusability programs, the (French) space center or a (French) satellite constellation, but nobody is talking about that. In fact France is actively pushing against new small rockets to launch micro satellites as well as opening new spaceports. There is also no sign of anyone seriously considering some sort of military or high alert civilian program to protect and promptly replace our space capabilities like Earth observation, telecommunications and satellite navigation.
