Hello, my name is Juno, I'm a dane (I come in peace), who discovered a Norwegian folk/worker song on Spotify, and wanted to translate it to Danish, with my limited capabilities of understanding Norwegian written-down language, but I couldn't find the lyrics anywhere. Spotify doesn't seem to have the lyrics, nor does any lyric website or anything have it. So I was wondering if any kind Norwegians, or Norse-speaking folk would like to write down the lyrics ear-to-paper in Norwegian? The link to song on Spotify is here, It's a beautiful song. And I know that there exists Danish versions of this, but I'm very unhappy with those, as the only ones I've found include lines like "Her og nu har vi bestemt at frygte døden mindre end et hundeliv", which I find frankly distasteful. And from what I can tell, the Norse version is a lot more poetic and dog-friendly, although I can't parse any of the words. My strength lies more in written Norse, which has more in common with Danish. Thank you 😀

  1. It sounds like completely normal Norwegian, so no need for [old] Norse speakers.

    Edit:

  2. Hi
Being a communist song, they sure keep the lyrics inaccessessible, I think there may be a book you could purchase…
I have spent some time trying to get tools to do the job, but I have failed. I have spent much more time on this than what just doing this by hand would demand…
Personnaly being on the other side of the voter spectrum, I now feel I need a shower :-)))

    I give up.

I have located the English lyrics, and it seem to be dog-friendly. So that is something at least…

    Best of luck to you!

    # Resolution of the Communards Lyrics by Bertolt Brecht:

Realizing that it is our weakness
That enables you to pass your laws
We resolve in future to abandon meekness
And the law hereon will justify our cause

Realizing that you hold us captive
With loaded pistols at our heads
We resolve in future not to fear your torture
    Slavery is worse than death

Realizing that you keep us hungry
So that you yourselves have all the more
We resolve that all that keeps us from the pantry
Can be overcome by breaking down the door

Realizing that you hold us captive
With loaded pistols at our heads
We resolve in future not to fear your torture
    Slavery is worse than death

Realizing that you keep us homeless
While around us houses stand unused
We have now resolved to put an end to trespass
From now on every worker shall be housed

Realizing that you hold us captive
With loaded pistols at our heads
We resolve in future not to fear your torture
    Slavery is worse than death

Realizing that we won’t persuade you
Into paying us a living wage
We resolve that we will take the factories from you
Realizing that your loss will be our gain

Realizing that you hold us captive
With loaded pistols at our heads
We resolve in future not to fear your torture
    Slavery is worse than death

Realizing that we can’t depend on
All the promises our rulers make
We’ve resolved for us the Good Life starts with freedom
Our future must be built by our dictate

Realising that the roar of cannons
Are the only words that speak to you
We must prove to you that we have learned our lesson
In future we will turn the guns on you
