Hi,
Me and my gf have a sudden period of time and we have a friend who is near Oslo that we are going to visit. We decided to make a 10 day holiday out of it. I hope we can share our roughly plan here and maybe you have some necessairy information or trip advice itinerairy wise. I maybe ask a lot of questions, hopefully someone can give us some input.
So we have about 10 days, will drive our own car. We take 1,5 day to come to Norway and 1,5 back so that leaves us for about 8 days. We love to drive and by what we have seen of Norway, the sights will be incredible. We want to combine driving and seeing places in some balance and roughly hope to drive from Oslo to Stavanger to Bergen and then back to Osla.
So firstly, there are two obvious routes from Oslo to Stavanger, inland or the coast. We have found some pro's and cons but are not really sure about this. We are thinking that inlands might be the best views but the coast does have a lot of cities. After driving we love to walk around in cities and I guess we are wondering if the places at the coast are worth visiting.
I've found this website that have shown about 4 scenic routes between Stavanger and to and from Bergen. https://www.visitnorway.com/plan-your-trip/travel-tips-a-z/norwegian-scenic-routes/
I've marked them on my maps and seem quite beautiful and also give some things to do along the road.
So we have read about a variety of cabins. Normally when go on a holiday by car (like Italy or Poland), we just pick the next place to drive to and look for airbnb's and hostels. We are not to picky so we always manage to book something. I guess for the cities in Norway its the same but how about the parts outside of major cities? We are bringing a tent and covers and things to make a bed and we would love the idea of staying in nature in a small cabin somewhere. But also don't want to pay a ton of money each night. How does this work in Norway outside of the cities?
Is Stavanger a good visit for a couple of days?
Any other places that should not miss if we are travelling from Oslo to Stavanger to Bergen?
Thanks for reading!

The key here is when these ten days are.
And are you flexible in dates?
If you are planning on goin in the autumn, you need to check the long term weather forecast for the places you want to go, because you might get 10 days of shitty weather (like really shitty, not European continent shitty), or fantastic weather, or anything in between.
Personally its getting late-ish for visiting Norway now. If you are lucky with the weather, you can push it to end of September. (Mid-May to Mid-September would be my season)
A few hints based on the areas I know.
The main coastal route to Stavanger is pretty boring. However, if you drive it, select RV44 from Flekkefjord to Stavanger. Pretty scenic. Then again, the inland routes are more scenic.
Likewise from Stavanger to Bergen. A great scenic road is from Stavanger via Tau, Hjelmeland, Røldal, Odda, Hardanger bridge and Voss. A short detour to Vøringsfossen might be a good idea.
Have fun!
Osla?
You can sleep fairly cheap in the tourist association cabins. https://www.dnt.no/english
Some cabins are communal, some can be rented privately. I believe! Nor to up to date on the specifics.
There is probably some suggestions for routes one can take on theirr website, walking from cabin to cabin. Or just just places to go in general.
