Has anyone else come across this and able to shed some light what it may mean for applications.

I currently have a submitted spousal RP application in the system already and I submitted it from within Finland.

I've felt I've been monitoring any changes to immigration law by the government quite well but this particular press release has, for me, come out of nowhere.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated 👍🏻

  1. Yeah the laws are changing regularly, there was lots of press around the changing coming last year.

    My understanding is it doesn’t affect those already in process.

  2. I think this is aimed more towards the border crossers (for example from russia). They want to track better where they have come from and want them to apply outside of finland, not in finland out of thin air.
    I think these are more aimed at the refugees not the people coming on a spousal basis.

    That’s at least how I interpret it.

Woah, they are doing that to prevent asylum seekers from working; a lot of successful asylum seekers would start working and normalize themselves by working and would apply for first residence permit; this is literally to close that path, so that they are forced to live in welfare, incredibly backwards; well there goes my advice about working to all the asylum seekers I constantly met, I will now tell them to just live on welfare.

    Before this used to be in migris own website that you should do this, normalize into employment; now they want you to stick to welfare, insane.

    2. Passport required now?… Well I am fucked, for years I had no passport because my country operates like that and I had to get an Alien’s document. These people don’t know of nuance.

    These rules are bad news; they are too broad and lack nuance. Why did I even buy a house?…

    If you came to Finland as an aslylum seeker, basically everything applies; like unfounded applications, literally every refugee is given 1 decision like that, made a mistake with the paperwork, damn; they just want to destroy that; while doing nothing about welfare abuse which is the crux of the issue, no, making that worse; because all they want is for immigrants not to compete with Finns.
