If the WFP isn’t means tested, Alan Sugar would get it because he’s 77. Why is it right that a man worth over £1bn gets the winter fuel payment purely because of his age?
Because the know the answer is horrible. Rich pensioners will be fine; poor pensioners will die.
I’m just not that bothered. Us families and working parents have had fucking years of this shite while the geriatrics got free bus travel, the triple lock, free telly licence and a winter fuel payment. The means testing will protect the poorest.
Classic Labour
Maybe the labour leadership are so far sighted they have a master plan out of all of this – but my god, they have given the media a good stick to beat them with (same media wouldn’t blink as the Tories gutted services over 14 years).
I see it maybe as a plan to break it down to the minimum then reform the systems to then benefit those who are struggling handing out money to every pensioner is a terrible idea as some really don’t require it.
We seem to care more about pensioners than we do working families and people who keep our country moving and who get none of the benefits pensioners do. If they need money they should just go back into part time work
Edit: the article is also disingenuous it doesn’t say that the report will be released after the vote it says it will be released in due time even they say the headline is just an assumption
Absolutely despicable. I’ll say it again, it won’t be long before you see another politician paying the physical price for these actions. They are so far removed and detached from normal people, it’s the only possible outcome.
