  1. If visuals are such a distraction… then just listen to the song and not watch a music video?

  2. Says woman who dropped an entire visual album for her biggest record.

  3. This is so mildly infuriating because visuals can help you connect with a song in a way that just the lyrics/music don’t. I’m not saying every song needs a music video to be enjoyable but if I wanted to only focus on the voice, I’d listen to it that way. If I go on YouTube (or whatever) to see if there’s a video, I’m not going to connect to the song deeper when there isn’t one. I’m just going to move on to something else.

Like the Pretty Hurts song is helped so much by that video. And then there’s songs that are elevated by their music videos. I don’t listen to him anymore because fuck him, but Kanye West’s Diamonds is a good example of a music video far surpassing the actual song. The lyrics to that song are trash.

  4. I hate music videos generally so I’m in favor of this

They are all the same and corny as hell

  5. More like she knew a country album was a gamble and didnt wanna blow money on music videos seeings how no one watches them any way

  6. I kinda agree with her take. When I listen to a song for the first time, if I do it by watching its music video, it “stamps” the video in my mind every time I hear the song thereafter, and I’m not a fan of that. So I prefer to just listen for my first impression, and let my imagination paint a mental picture based on the music.

  7. Beyonce acts like we can’t close our eyes if we just want to focus on the music. Sounds like a budget cope to me.

  8. Im not a fan of cowboy carter. A couple of music videos for it might have helped me enjoy it more.

  9. ”Video Killed The Radio Star” finally catching on.

  10. Fine but can she at least drop the Renaissance film that was in theaters to watch at home?

  11. I imagine the real reason is that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. It isn’t the era of Peak MTV anymore. Why light money on fire to make a music video when it will get just as many streams

  12. Pretty sure they shot some videos and just never released them

  13. There’d be too much controversy and hate to be worth it

  14. This is why I see every girl at my kid’s school wearing cowboy boots.

  15. Translation: we crunched the numbers and it’s less than net zero

  16. Couldn’t we just be trusted to listen to the songs vocals on a separate occasion like adults? Seems like a very elaborate way of saying “Nah. Not this time, didn’t feel like it.” Or “Children, pay attention or you’ll miss my brilliance.”

  17. Three months later, she releases a video for cowboy Carter
