The volunteer in the video is from Brazil. He fought for a while but had to return home for family reasons. He asked us for help to return and is now back in Ukraine thanks to a donor who used their airline miles to book his flight.
Flight costs are very expensive for those flying from far away. Volunteers come to assist in Ukraine at enormous personal financial cost, and many come from countries that are not wealthy. Airline costs are one of the larger expenses volunteers face and can be prohibitive for people trying to get to Ukraine.
We’ve helped hundreds of volunteers and the amount of miles we’ve used is in the millions. Our pot of miles is getting low and we need donors to continue. We match donors directly with a volunteer needing a flight; donors book the flight in the volunteer’s name.
We vet volunteers asking for flight assistance to ensure they have a spot in a military unit and are in good standing. We also fly some non-military volunteers on a limited basis who are working with reputable organizations and have specialized skills Ukraine needs.
