Hungary had admirals? Has admirals? whoa, how..
I’m Hongrie, nom nom
Admiral Horthy also lead the army that executed other more that 1000 civilian men, women and children in 10 days in 1940 in Transilvania. The only fault of the victims was they were born Romanian or Jewish.
IIRC (didn’t click the wiki link; I’d like to test my memory), this and other attempts failed, not because of a rejection of monarchy by the people in power or the populace or a desire to republicize the state (I *think* the Hapsburgs still had strong support in Hungary), but because there was an explicit (and probably correct) fear that if Hungary welcomed back their king, the Allies would invade to depose him, and probably occupy the nation.
Basically, Hungary wasn’t interested in getting *Germany’d*.
