>“I’m from the generation if I have a day without, I don’t go asking for it. Whatever I’ve had, I’ve worked for it and it’s so annoying and frustrating that it’s come to this. I’m not begging for it, I refuse to beg for it.
And yet lives off her husbands pension, the state pension and has received WFA for 13 years.
The irony is palpable.
Could somebody please explain what the threshold is?
This lady seems to be a little lacking in self awareness even if she does have a point.
I have to ask if stv news are writing this as a sympathy piece or as clickbait. The focus on COPD almost certainly caused by many years of smoking coming from someone pleading poverty seems at best a mistake not least when that person claims they never complain about anything while going to the news to complain.
Merry Keir-mas everyone!
These kinds of stories are a great distraction from the deeper causes. Everyone’s talking about the benefit being cut and not about stuff like:
Why is heating so expensive?
Why aren’t energy companies required to help protect pensioners and other less well off households?
What happened to the energy efficiency schemes?
There’s a bunch of statistics from the census about the number of single pensioner households, is the winter fuel allowance really the best way to address the problem?
A subsidy to energy companies to allow wealthy pensioners to heat unoccupied rooms in a draughty 4bedroom house, does not seem an effective use of public funds.
People are so easily distracted, they’ve got you all talking about citizens that have worked and paid into society in a bad way and you are not looking at the donations Liebour took from enegy companies and lobby groups. Horrific amount of “bribes” labour has accepted. Why are WE tax payers still subsidising energy companies? They’ve had record profits year on year and still this ukgov want to put tax payers money in their pocket??? GBEnergy is going to cost billions and will be unable to lower anyone’s bills. Same circus same ring leader. Getting unbearable seeing how easy media controls the puppet strings. Ask the right questions!
Luckily, thanks to the above-inflation increases to state pension demanded by the triple lock, she’ll be net up this year, even after the WFA has been taken away.
She should be getting Attendance Allowance or claiming the new Scottish equivalent (Oct 24) on top of everything else if her health is that fucked by COPD.
Currently £290.60 or £434.20 every four weeks.
And that award may then allow her to qualify for means tested benefits, in which case she’d get her £300.
Unless she gets it already and it’s been omitted from the story for dramarama.
